Çankırı Museum


The very first archeology and ethnography museum of Çankırı entered into service with 116 works of art collected from the region in 1972.

Today, there are 18.922 pieces of Works of art belonging to various periods.

2.165 pieces of them are archeological, 1.217 pieces of them are ethnographical and 15.540 are coins.

In the display salon of the museum, archeological and ethnographical works of art are on display together.

In the section of archeology, the works of art pertaining to Late Bronze, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantinen periods are exhibited.

Among the works of art that are exhibited, there are pots of terra-cotta, bone, glass, bead tools, ornaments, bottles of parfume and tears, medical instruments, disks, oil lamps, needle, stones of ring and various pieces of sculptures can be found.

In the salon of glass works, there are various glass works of art belonging to Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantinen Eras.

In the section of ethnography, various wovens belonging to Çankırı and its region, handiworks, samples of calligraphy, swages, clothes, weapons, ornaments and various works of art that were used in everyday life and creations that reflect different samples of art are exhibited.

Apart from that, fossil foundlings that belong to the ancestors of elephant, rhino, sheep, goat, pig, camelopard, deer and primates dating back to 8 million years which were found through the excavations made in Çorakyerler region, are also exhibited.

In the outside of the building, there are several lion sculptures, grave steles, milstones, architectural pieces, tablets, Otoman grave stones and cubes of cereals are also located.
